![]() ![]() Understanding the entire network is very important. Sketch out a map of your network and its' devices. Read the User Guide and work through all of the router's admin screens to learn what you have and how the router is currently configured.ĭo not make any deliberate changes and be careful not to accidently make a change. Other router configuration settings would be necessary to establish a static IP address for your computer.įor the most part, QoS is minimal with respect to retail/home routers and you may actually not gain much with respect to performance.Īnd setting up QoS likely to make overall network management more cumbersome and problematic. If either IP address changes the rule(s) becomes moot. Plus those device IP addresses would need to be static (not changing). Appears that you need to do so for upload (data from your computer) and download (data to your computer). You could for example, set up rules to give your computer priority with respect to traffic between it and the router. Destination being where the data is going.įor example: if you have four computers/devices - A, B, C, and DĪnd you want A's and D's network communications to be given priority over all other network communications then you would use the IP addresses for A and D. He's still keeping the Quake branding on it though. The two devices that you want/wish to be given priority with respect to network communications between the two. He doesn't want anyone to be able to download Quake I's soundtrack with the game, yet he wants people to be buy off his webstore whenever he makes it available. Plus, Trent Reznor of the band Nine Inch Nails who did Quake I's soundtrack, decided to be a real ass and cause a copyright debacle with Id Software. Neither Quake I or II ever got patched for digital downloads from places like Steam, so the music went missing. Since Quake I and II originally came on CD-ROM discs, you'd play the either game on your computer and the soundtrack would be played off of the physical disc you had in your disc drive. ![]() There's also an up-scaled texture pack somewhere on the internet that makes Quake II's original textures high resolution if that suits your taste. Just like with Quake I, you'll have to set up an auto executable in Quake II's base directory for the same reasons. ![]() Just install it, set your key bindings, and you should be good to go. It fixes up Quake II real well for modern systems, no headaches trying to get the music working, and it doesn't come at the cost of making Quake II feel non-vanilla. It adapts to your computer's screen resolution, supports more modern keybindings, adds Quake II's missing soundtrack back in, and fixes numerous bugs. That should fix it.įor Quake II you'll want to install the 'Yamagi Patch', there's a guide for it on Steam where you can download it. I think if you right click it and select 'Properties', you should be able to find some compatibility options for your operating system. If stock Quake II doesn't start up normally and you can't close out of it, you should restart your computer and find the quake2.exe in Quake II's directory. Can anyone help me Ive had a server running directly through cable modem but the router wont co-operate. It's kinda open ended based on your own computer and preferences. You can find the autoexec.cfg commands for these things on the internet, but I can post my own commands here if you'd like. Things like an uncapped FOV, uncapped frame rate, fit to fullscreen, no texture filtering, weapon positioning, fixed menu demo, chunky, smooth, etc. You'll have to do some fiddling around with your own custom auto executables and in-game options depending on how you want it. If you want to stay original, your best bets are the Mark V or Quakespasm sourceports. ![]()
